ON URBANIZATION OF THE MIDDLE AND SMALL SIZE CITIES IN THE PEARL RIVER DELATA

Abstract  After analysing the functions, developnent characteristics and the urbanization mechanism of the middle and small size cities during the process of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta, this paper believs that the development of the middle and small size cities have made the urban system of the Pearl River Delta perfected, and the middle and small size cities made more contributions to regional urbanization than the large cities. This paper takes the opinion that much more varieties of the urbanization mechanism will be come out, the mo re ideal spatial model of urbanization will be appeared in the Pearl River Delta. Moreover. This paper puts forward suggestions to the future development of the middle and mmall size cities in the Pearl Rever Delta.
